Clearance Sensing Design

Why are clearance sensing slack adjusters better than stroke sensing adjusters?

Clearance Sensing Slack Adjusters are the preferred option for a growing majority of vehicle manufacturers and fleet operators. The main reason for this preference is that Stroke Sensing Slack Adjusters can only recognise direct air chamber stroke, and cannot determine the difference between elastic deformation of the drum and lining wear, which results in unwanted adjustment when brake deflection occurs.

Clearance Sensing Slack Adjusters, on the other hand, have an adjustment mechanism that disengages as soon as the linings come into contact with the drum, so no matter what elastic deformation occurs within the brake components, a Clearance Sensing Slack Adjuster will only account for lining wear, ensuring air chamber travel is kept to a minimum and running clearance is stable.
